Automated Parking System is more common in Europe, but instead of driving around in a garage looking for a parking space, the driver will park the car on a platform. If their vehicle is an electric vehicle, then they can plug the automobile into a charging system. They will leave the platform, and the vehicle will be taken on the platform to a location that would allow the vehicle to remain until it is called. Once docked, the APS will start charging the vehicle if plugged in.
When the driver wishes the vehicle back, they will go to an available platform, and call for their vehicle. The APS will collect the vehicle, and bring it to the driver facing outside as if they were driving out. The driver will take their electric charging cable, and exit the APS. The driver will never enter the actual space where the vehicles are parked at.
There are a couple of advantages to an APS. First, the number of vehicles can double or more than a conventional parking garage. Every vehicle can charge which is good for the growing electric vehicle population. Since no one can enter the storage space, this will eliminate the chance of vandals, and thieves. And since the system does not require windows, or open spaces, there will be better climate control with vents exhausting any carbon monoxide fumes.
