Wireless Fidelity is using a standard bandwidth and protocols to connect to a network using radio waves. This could be a WiFi antenna, or just as likely – the cellular phone. This is especially useful in a Local Area Network that does not have RJ45 jacks throughout the premise. The lower the frequency, the slower the data, but the further the range. A 5Ghz radio can transmit massive amounts of data, but will have a lower range than a 2.4Ghz that is slower.
