Rich Communications Standard is the successor of SMS, and requires a compliant smartphone to use the data network to carry your messages. RCS offers not only text, but high resolution images and videos. You can also send links, and since it uses data, you won’t have to worry about any SMS limits. Also, being that is data, you can send an RCS message to someone in another country without having SMS charges. Just be sure that your message carries over RCS.
