Every year (unless you paid in bulk), you have to pay a domain registrar for the lease of your domain name. The registrar is also in charge of providing WHOIS information which is required on some level even if WHOIS Privacy is made available. In some cases, your domain registrar is also your host. I personally would caution over that though.
